Sea of Ink  founder Raisa, is an American-born student of Islamic calligraphy studying under the Ottoman tradition. Fascinated by the pedagogical transmission of knowledge  in which the secrets of khat are passed from master to student , she traveled to Istanbul in 2018 to begin a rigorous, traditional apprenticeship in this ancient art form of Islamic Caligraphy. Raisa continued to expand her knowledge of the Islamic Arts, obtaining a Master's of Traditional Arts while studying in London and also holds a diploma in Islamic Art and Architecture  with a focus on the Mughal era.
